Last night, Steve and I went separately to our Somerville Bible Study, and therefore left in our individual vehicles. Although we waited for each other to go home, I wondered why Steve was taking so long to start his motor and start driving. We finally left. What I didn't know was that Steve was having difficulty with his left arm and to a lesser degree, with his left leg, having lost some of the feeling in them and causing some concern about driving. When we arrived home, almost at the same time, although by different routes, Steve got out of his truck shaking his arm as though trying to get it back to life.
To make a long story short, within the next half hour we had an ambulance ride to Somerset hospital for what turned out to be a stroke. It was a blessing we went there because the treatment, called a tPA has to be administered intravenously and acts as a strong anti-coagulant. This also means the patient has to be watched closely for hours later in case one of the serious side effects of internal bleeding, often cerebral, occurs. Steve is now in ICU and doing very well although neither one of us has had much sleep, either last night or today.
We hope you will remember Steve in prayer. The doctors are very happy with his condition at this time, and are hoping for a complete recovery.
