Grand Knight's Message

Dear Worthy Brothers,

One of the most gratifying experiences of being a Knight is all the smiles we can bring to the faces of those who attend events that the Knights either sponsor or support. One such event that has become a staple of Knight support is the St. Patrick’s Day (SPD) breakfast sponsored by the Vocationist Sisters.
This event is a joyous occasion with smiles and laughter from the pre-school students to their parents and grandparents.
In the latest iteration of the SPD breakfast on March 16, the Knights worked on Friday evening and early Saturday morning to prepare and serve a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, and scrambled eggs for ~240 people. I would like to recognize those who helped out and put smiles on the faces of many people and supported the sisters with their fundraiser event:
PGK Dave Adams
PGK Manny Cirne
PGK Jon De Leon
Mario Folino
Sean Zukowski
Jerry Surrette
Kennedy Arockiam
Dominic Larosa

Youth Outreach - Knights of Columbus at The Center School in Somerset:

Back on December 13, 2023 our Council gave a substantial donation to The Center School for the purchase of a scroll saw for the shop class. The saw was purchased and installed in February 2024.

As part of the agreement for the school saw, a plaque acknowledging our Council’s gift was to be affixed to the saw.
In the picture below, the plaque bearing the name of our Council is on full display to keep KofC top of mind for all the students who use the saw. Pictured below.

Easter Egg Hunt Eggs-stravaganza:
The Knights will be bringing back the Easter Egg hunt in a big way on March 30, at 10:00 in the Parish Hall grounds (indoor in case of rain). In addition to an Easter Egg hunt for children 0-4 and 5-7 we will be:
  • - playing music for line dancing (Hokey Pokey)
  • - distributing chocolate eggs, candy bars, marshmallow “peepers” to those children who find 10 Easter Eggs.
  • - having the children solve jigsaw puzzles from puzzle pieces inserted in the plastic eggs.
  • - holding relay races carrying eggs on a spoon
  • - giving out prizes to those children who find eggs with the Golden Ticket inside.
  • - visiting with the Easter Bunny who will make a grand appearance and give out the prizes.
Just plain having a lot of fun with the event!
Help is needed with set-up/decorating at 8:30 AM on Saturday morning before the event starts at 10:00 AM. The Knights are looking to bring more smiles to the faces of young and old alike.

Other Shout Outs:
  • Feb 18 – Blood drive run by PGK Pat Noonan netted a strong result of 47 units donated.
  • Feb/March – PGK Dave Adams continues to collect food bank donations – more than 400lbs since the start of the year!
  • March 19 – St. Joseph Day social event organized by Gary Staropoli, with cookies and pastries, and refreshments served after the special 7:00 PM St. Joseph’s Day mass.
Upcoming Events:
  • - March 24 – Palm Sunday Masses – Ushers needed!
  • - March 27 – Council/Social meeting downstairs in Classroom 14 (7:30 PM).
  • - March 30 – Easter Egg Hunt at the Parish Hall grounds (or indoors in case of rain) (10:00 AM)
  • - March 31 – Easter Sunday Masses – Ushers Needed!
  • - April 5 – First Friday Eucharistic Adoration (7:00 PM)
  • - April 10- Council Meeting downstairs in Classroom 14 (7:30 PM).
  • - April 13/14 – God’s Special Children Drive (look for sign-up sheet with 2-hour shifts)

As always, please keep our Council and our brothers in your prayers as we invoke Blessed Father McGivney to guide our Council in our mission of Charity, Unity, Fraternity and Patriotism.

Vivat Jesus!

Sincerely,
GK Bill
