Grand Knight's Message

Dear Worthy Brothers,

A parish where people do things together is a parish where people come together.
Never was this more true than at the February 11, 2025 Francis J. Comune Knights of Columbus Communion Breakfast. PGK “Judgie” has to be smiling down on us from above.
The Communion Breakfast, in addition to being a vehicle to build our Catholic identity, also serves to get the most people to take part in the event itself. From the planning, the set-up, the cooking, the clean-up, to the audience participation in terms of receiving awards, having breakfast together, singing and mingling, this event gets people doing things; and doing things with our fellow parishioners.
All credit for a Communion Breakfast that apparently exceeded attendance standards by a wide margin (~172 tickets sold) to my fellow Knights on the Planning Committee, PGK Bob Warren (Chair), Gary Starpoli, Kennedy Arockiam, PGK Dave Adams, PGK Al LoGiudice and Manny Cirne, and those who spent many hours on the set-up and kitchen duties: PGK Dave Adams, Mike Sabella, Steve Voultepsis, Mario Folino, Sean Zukowski, PGK Pat Noonan, PGK Jon De Leon, Harley Juth, Ray Perrone, Maksim Maxwell, Dominik LaRossa, and Larry Blanke.
Additional thanks to the ex-KofC parish organizations that helped, including the Hospitality Committee, the Schilling Family (Kim, Max and Owen) and a pair of 8th graders who, despite late notice, attended and assisted with serving tables.
Finally, thanks to PGK Al LoGiudice for his skillful emceeing of the event and PGK Sal Longo for conducting the 50/50 drawing.
This CB provided many special moments, including the 100 Eucharistic Miracles display, the Blessing of the attendees with the First Degree Relic of Blessed Carlo Acutis, the music playlist by Kennedy, the singing, the mimosas and the compelling testimonial speech by Deacon John Scansaroli, and the opportunity to give awards to many special people of Blessed Sacrament. Congratulations to the KofC award winners, Brother Al Beronio, for Senior of the Year, Brother Eric Koppi for CCD Teacher of the Year and PGK Dave Adams for the Thomas Sheehan Knight of the Year Award.
We look forward to running it back next year!

Picture included is "The view from the podium" – Eucharistic Miracles Exhibition to the left and the wonderful parishioners of Blessed Sacrament filling the rest of the room.

GK Bill

Knights of Columbus

NJ Amateur Radio

From May 5th through May 20, 2023, the NJ amateur radio Knights representing all 5 dioceses in NJ operated amateur radio stations statewide under a special amateur radio call sign, K0C (K-zero-C) with the dual intent of sharing the Knights of Columbus’ many accomplishments and encouraging Catholic men that it’s a great time to join the Knights. The project, known in amateur radio lingo as a “Special Event Station (SES),” was highly successful. K0C made 2,100 contacts into 44 states, 67 countries and six continents over the 15 days of the Special Event Station. Hundreds of facts reflecting accomplishments, donations of time and money as well Knights success stories were broadcast via amateur radio during these 15 days.

An attempt was made to operate a portable station during the 127th New Jersey State Convention in Wildwood but the weather and sunspot conditions proved to be quite challenging. This year’s operation will take place between May 4-18, 2024 culminating at the 128th New Jersey State Convention. We may also be operating a SES in support of the Supreme Convention in Quebec from August 4-8, 2024; Commemoration of the birth, death and feast day of Blessed Michael J. McGivney; Columbus Day weekend October 12-14 as well as October 31st to November 2nd, the Anniversary of Beatification of Blessed McGivney by Pope Francis in 2020.

Our goal again will be to promote goodwill and fellowship on the amateur radio bands. We make contacts with amateurs from all over the United States as well as the world. We exchange our names, location, and information about the Knights of Columbus. I have been an amateur radio operator for over 58 years and still enjoy the hobby. It has given me my career field as well as many hours of learning, adventure and meeting wonderful people from all corners of the world.
I reach out to any amateur radio operator within our parish who might be interested in learning more about this to contact Jim Brogan, W2UM at broganjp@gmail.com
